Do you believe in God?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 28, 2007:
No, I don't believe in God. I feel as though God is something we create to handle our problems, to blame, to trust, to justify ourselves and our way of life. However, I will take responsibility for myself, my problems, and I myself will determine my place in the world. Is there a God? I cannot say for sure. Do I believe there is a God? No, I have no reason to.
I belive in Man.
I belive in Man.

Right on !

Such an interesting response, Shreyan. The funny thing is, I believe and have actually said and say the same things as you do about how people use God to handle problems, blame and justify. But unlike you I believe in God. I don't get wrapped up in the religion side of things. For me, I think of it as a spiritual experience and believe in directly connecting. I think that a true relationship with God comes with taking self-responsibility for all of our actions. I was raised atheist and always knew, in my heart, that God existed.
Marcella…actually, I know what you are talking about.
I was raised Hindu/Agnostic, though I've been to Catholic school and Sunday school. The strange thing is, it was the reverse for me. I never really believed there was a God. It was only later that I started using the label “atheist” but even as a child, the only time I even prayed was “to a Divine Being” “just in case.” It couldn't hurt, right? I did give respect to the Hindu gods, but that was for cultural reasons.
Huh…even as a child I never believed in God, though it had nothing to do with my heart. I used my heart for other things, because it couldn't touch God…or there was nothing to be touched when I tried.
Shreyan- Sometimes just writing back and forth the message can get muddled. I hope you took what I wrote as not trying to sway you in any way. I was really just recognizing how we were both so similar in feeling about how people use God.
Nah, no worries, some people take sharing of opinions way to seriously- I'm not one of them. This site was built for trading ideas, wasn't it? I thank you for yours, new information can never be a bad thing =)
